Odd Day

Each year Smyrna Middle School students take a pledge to end the use of the “R” word.  In March, students all across the United States and the world will join us as we commit ourselves to stop the derogatory use of the “R” word.  When you use this word as an insult or a joke, it promotes negative stereotypes about people with intellectual disabilities.

Event shirts are on sale now.  Flyers are posted throughout the school with an image of this year’s shirt.  See Ms. Hall in Room 502 by Friday, February 3rd to order yours.  Students wearing an event shirt the day of our banner signing will be entered into a drawing for a gift card.

Green Team will be hosting a Glow Party Dance Friday January 27th from 6 to 8 pm. Wristbands will be handed out during 2nd period Thursday and must be worn to attend the dance.

Attention students who need to borrow a chromebook on a school day - starting Monday 1/30, there will be a new online way of ordering a chromebook in the morning instead of coming down to the library.  There will be a link on the SMS website that you will use to request a chromebook, and then the library will be in touch to get a device to you instead of you coming down.  Also - just as a reminder with a fresh semester to be sure to follow the classroom expectations of keeping your cell phone away, earbuds out, and hoodies down.

To get everyone in the habit of checking for your chromebook each morning, Student Council is going to be conducting an email raffle of sorts. Mrs. Gray will be sending out emails to students at random in the morning starting on January 30th. Students who receive the email have until 8:20 to reply to Mrs. Gray. You will need to answer the questions in the email. If she gets your reply by 8:20 then she will bring You a prize slip to redeem in the cafeteria for a free treat. If you forgot your chromebook, did not check your email, or are not in school that day then you cannot receive the prize. Again, she will be in touch, you should not leave your classroom.

Congratulations to Takuya Ii for placing first in the school spelling bee yesterday. Sean Ridoran placed second and Aidan Lipinski came in third. All participants did an excellent job.
